Well written and well argued, yet, I am not persuaded. Zuckerberg, like a chameleon is changing his outward appearance, but, he remains Zuckerberg, the Zuckerberg who put huge sums of money, time and draconian effort into silencing the voices of millions of people. To lead me to believe otherwise, Zuckerberg will need to put huge sums of money where he wants us to believe that his mouth is.
I didn’t say I believe he’s changed as a person, only that it’s possible. For me it’s all about the direction of travel. If he keeps doing things like dismissing fact checkers and keeps it up then after a length of time we can start believing. But even before you believe it’s sensible to welcome the apparent change.
I have to imagine part of the response is due to his Congressional hearing. But I think it's going to end up being selective. I posted something about Bill Gates yesterday and it has a community note showing that they are still going to cover for certain lies.
You are probably right, but at the same time I’d expect a change of this scale to take some time. They programmed in significant bias, so I imagine there’s a technical process to remove that and a logistical issue in terms of whether the change of direction can only be accomplished fully by shedding staff. Musk had to sweep out most of Twitter to get it functioning better and there has already been public push back from serving Meta staff regarding Zuckerberg’s new position.
You've absolutely nailed this Daniel. Brilliant. Best description of Zucks I've seen.
Thanks Leila 😀😀

Next week Mr. Zuckerbergenstein will convert to the Episcopal Church...
