The radical young of the 60s and 70s eventually matured (save for a few celebrity exceptions). Getting decent jobs, buying homes and having children were drivers of maturing.
No longer. Jobs of the career type are not available to most graduates, many of whom graduate to unemployment, home ownership is a distant dream (except for those lucky enough to benefit from wealthier parents) and the birthrate is in steep decline except for immgrants. Optimism about the future is missing.
It is. But it’s an aspect of their own failings as well that they gravitate most towards the things that created this situation and will make it worse.
You can also say that there was some rationality to some of the radicalism of the 60's and 70's. There was genuine racial discrimination to be overcome. There were artificial limits on career opportunities for women. There were environmental problems to be addressed. There were unjustified wars and drafts.
However, most of these problems were largely resolved decades ago. Today's radicals are (mostly) fighting complete nonsense, such as global warming, Jews controlling the world, and the patriarchy.
Yes, there are real economic issues they are facing, but as Jupp said, they are fighting for more of the same policies which have produced these issues. Utter madness.
Very true. The civil rights movement mixed the rational and irrational (MLK and Malcolm X for example). There were things to complain about. Today’s kids are complaining anout not having a house, but don’t want a job. They have rights, but want to give away more of them. They have been destroyed by dependency, and demand more. They consider not being allowed to kill people or steal things an injustice and harm to people on skin colour anti-racism. They are a mess.
Yes, looking at the current snapshot is pessimistic. Yet, being an optimist, I am putting my bet on the younger Generation. They could be inspired by future….like going to Mars and making our current outlook obsolete.
I think it will take more than that. The indoctrination of school children needs to stop, the opressor/oppressed zeitgeist challenged, the culture wars need winning, the judicial activism ended, and the dead hand of socialism removed from the economy.
First of all, people must desire ennobling truth over self-indulgent lies. Because communism, Islamism, antisemitism, hatred of the other gender are all based on lies that are attractive to one’s base nature. They deceitfully justify violence and immorality.
There must be an outcry for a higher way of being.
Yes! The indoctrination of children in school by curricula and teachers must stop. Citizens need to get to work on this, or we will lose the future. We have already lost a generation, who are staffing up the government.
Mr Jupp, perhaps you could explore how that can be approached in Britain, whether as a campaign platform policy or a letter-writing campaign to an MP or public rallies.
Are they, though? Is Reform voicing support for rooting out the social justice curriculum, or the Muslim Brotherhood version of Middle East history? Or are the top people more concerned about not alienating constituencies that would never vote Reform anyway? Maybe some email writing campaigns would change their assessment or give them some courage.
The really smart ones are either choosing a university study that will lead to a real job (engineering, computer science, tech, medicine) or going into the trades (electrician, plumber, etc.). The rest are just road kill.
I believe public teaching is the only profession that is unionized. No other profession is. "Rhonda "Randi" Weingarten (born December 18, 1957) is an American labor leader, attorney, and educator who has served since 2008 as president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), an affiliate of the AFL–CIO." She is an admitted Marxist. There is zero reason for this union to exist. She and her organization have done great harm to American public education.
Our institutions , those on which western civilisation was built , were infiltrated by marxists and now are useless for their original purpose . There is much restoration and rebuilding to do …..,
Perhaps the only saving grace is that so many of these radicalized Americans( young and older) are adverse to the slightest discomfort( let alone real, actual physical pain) have zero ability to critically think and are physically and mentally the weakest in society. ( Think mom's bringing pizza to the protestors in the no go Chops area in Seattle or the students arrested re-entering the Columbia U off limits areas because they needed to bring tampons to their friend because " emergency" ,protestors planting seeds in the park because they were hungry and geriatrics showing up with walkers) Also, without their phones, they flounder(couldn't call for pizza OR tampons) and without public assistance payments, access to their medications and handicap parking , the oldies--they're finished.
Real life, real consequences and an empty belly are the solution, not the ballot box. Like Iron Mike said" everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"
Stay fit and sharp, remember how to function without your phone and get over your suicidal compassion. Some will wise up but many will perish when push comes to shove. The participation trophy crowd will learn the hard way that there are, in fact, winners AND losers.
True. It’s all artificially sustained as well by foreign funding and Soros and Singham types, combined with the media. Cutting off all the funding flows, designating communist attitudes as terrorism, and closing down media outlets who pump out filth could reverse lots of it.
Exactly, bring back ‘winners and losers’ because there should be a price to pay for sloth, sloppy work, and poor work ethic. The possibility of getting fired once was a huge looming reality — and no one ever wanted to become a "Ne'er-do-well" — merit matters!
Thanks for a fantastic essay. I ask myself the same question al the time.
I am a politically involved grandma in the suburbs of NY City. As I watch the murder, mayhem and general bad behavior that These Kids™ are capable of, it makes we sick to think that if it weren't for their good upbringing and the grace of God, my own grand kids could be out there.
All you have to do is read the NY Post on any day of the week to see the latest youthful horror that these gangs of sub-humans are inflicting on the populace. Their crimes include murder, assault, robbery, destruction of property, graffiti, taking over beaches and roadways and generally making life miserable for anyone who comes in contact with them.
We have reached a crisis point in places like NYC because every institution is afraid to do anything for fear of being called a racist or worse. Everyone who reads Substack knows exactly what I'm talking about.
The biggest problem is that the little bastards have way too much time on their hands that enables them to get away with this stuff. You know the old saying about "an idle mind is the Devil's workshop." For some reason they don't have to work or make a living. Somehow they get cars, phones, food, housing for free. Really- WTF??
Anyway, to me the answer is clear- we need to bring back Impressment.
"Definition: In the old days, taking men off the streets and forcing them into military duty was called impressment. The specific teams that kidnapped or forced men into service were known as press gangs. Used to quickly bolster crew numbers for the navy during wartime."
I am quite serious about this. Since the parents, schools or cops can't or won't do anything about these savages, then maybe it's time for some Federal agency like the War Dept. to step in and start physically removing the young criminals from the street. Not necessarily to make them soldiers, but how about work crews? Anything is better than allowing these marauding wolf packs to continue preying upon our society.
This may sound crazy but desperate situations require desperate remedies.
The Ukrainians are doing this now. Three to four vans driving down the streets looking for able men (of any age). They see a subject, surround him with the vans and abduct him. Other pedestrians or drivers jump on the scene and try to save him. Someone always ends up dead--the abductee, an adbuctor or a civilian trying to stop it.
It’s amazing that people react to impoverishment by wanting to remove private property altogether, and have govt plunder their better-off neighbors. When in fact what has impoverished us all is the fiat banking system - with the full approval of govt - continuously & intentionally decreasing the real value of labor.
If socialism was about abolishing banksters fraud, it might mean something. But since when has more government plundering fixed inequity? This idea completely ignores the role of human initiative in creating value.
I agree. It’s akin to them deploying the rhetoric of 1% and tax the billionaires without noting that most billionaires are on their side and fine with this as they know they will have loopholes and actually it’s just the middle class who will be bled of every last cent.
Yes, the fiat banking system has caused massive harm, which is ongoing. Many don't notice it, because it is more of a "slow drip" type of poison, rather than a horror you see on the nightly news. They haven't done the type of study one needs to do in order to understand what they are facing.
Combine that with terrible schools, regulations that make it hard to start new businesses, and welfare programs which are Ponzi schemes for the older population and benefit unproductive immigrants, and you have a recipe for economic disaster.
Certainly far more a problem in urban centres. Part of why they want to destroy farming families-they are one of the last places where you’ve got generational rootedness and some level of independence.
I often pose this question to friends, some on the left but more on the right. If in five, 10 or 20 years, and assuming no cheating, the demographics of the US were such that the left controlled congress and enough states to amend the constitution ( meaning to rewrite it completely or even abolish it, and that especially means 1&2A) , would you leave America? Most on the right say that can never happen but yes it can. And my argument is that we are on our way for the reasons Jupp sets forth above, primarily because of what they schools have done for the past two decades together w the power of social media. There are many side questions i will not delve into but this is not time to.go ostrich. As trump appears to be doing
I don’t think Trump has gone ostrich. I do think he’s too moderate on facing media and communist and Muslim opponents. It’s one of the great ironies of the whole he’s a fascist narrative. He’s far too restrained and won’t stray beyond the old rules.
I hope you ate correct and what is occurring tbe past few days is a charade. We shall soon find out. Here's a question for you: is another 60 days of the status quo wise or dumb. Perhaps it depends on whether Trump truly has a red line that none of us know and we need more time to gather intelligence and assemble munitions. If this is about getting lower gas prices for a month or two and eventually declaring mission accomplished there will be many prices paid, both in more Persian blood and nooses and less ability of america to protect strength. The world is watching
To your point, check out this article about the NPVIC- National Popular Vote Interstate Compact:
"Advancing the latest “progressive” scheme to upend our Constitution and make the people serve the government, Governor Abigail Spanberger has signed a bill forcing Virginia to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC). This ruse to overturn the Electoral College, a critical safeguard that ensures equal presidential representation for all Americans, is now just 48 votes away from national implementation.
The coalition seeks to force the presidential selection to be decided by popular vote alone.
This would favor Democrats in two important ways, which is why Spanberger has speedily signed on. First, controlling the vote in America’s most densely populated cities would be a near-guaranteed national victory. Replete with Tammany Hall-style power dynamics and political horse-trading, these cities are already Democrat strongholds.
Part of the problem for sure. Main point is how many appreciate what's going on and how demographics operate historically. Many assume nothing major could ever happen
I take some solace but the anti religious forces are very mighty and more importantly organized and well funded. And then there are the indoctrination factories we call educational institutions. Like a snowball heading down a steep slope
Yes! Online Total Immersion -- and the forces Mr Jupp outlines -- are New Things that could overcome the formerly irresistible attractive force of Sanity Eventually.
From my very narrow experience of my son and his acquaintances, It appears to me that in lieu of much historical understanding, they cleave to the messages of Nick Fuentes and such becaue ot the emotional liberation they offer. And I wonder if this isn't also true of the Left males. If this is the case then the growing quite male attitude of MAGA, instead of fanning violence should defuse it.
In a saner world, children, idiots and women were denied the vote. Perhaps the proof of the pudding has been in the eating. The make up of parliament if only women 18-50 could vote tells it all. Perhaps we need to re-think the entire universal suffrage thing. Limiting votes only to those with property and gainfully employed, and women over 50 might be a start? And no, I'm not kidding. If you're dumb enough to vote for communists, you're really too dumb to be allowed to vote - or maybe even to exist.
I do think we should treat communists McCarthy style, if not harsher. It’s going to be easier to shift the education than to take away the vote though. Kids or journos or politicians expressing communism-target them for real punishment.
There is merit to such a proposal, but it is unfortunately a non-starter, since the educational system has convinced the people that universal suffrage is the apotheosis of our "democracy".
Also, from a devil's advocate standpoint, you would be excluding the voices of some people who have been harmed by the political system (those unable to find work due to bad policies). They should have a voice in terms of changing bad policies, but they need a proper education in order to do so.
Not sure what your point is. Perhaps you would prefer to live in a "democracy" where the idiots would force upon you communism, climate lunacy and tribal set offs. The parliament that Jupp posted that would be elected by women aged 18-50 is a dystopian, bloody nightmare. No sane male would countenance that. So the logical response would be to deny the vote to anyone that would erect such a horror.
So, you want some agency to decide who gets to vote, to deny women the vote, also exclude those holding political philosophies distasteful to the agency. Who among the men decides who will constitute this agency? Might that be a problem?
In America, a lot of government power is supposed to rest at the state level or lower. This is why people are voting with their feet, and hopefully not bringing the Blue State political impulses with them when they flee to Red States. If you want to live in a place where your kids can find a non-woke state school, you move to Florida.
And the blue state dildos ARE bringing their politics with them. Like locusts who eat up one field and leave it desolate, and then move on to more depredations......Be afraid. be very afraid.....
In a few Democrat - controlled states, redistricting plans that eliminated Republican-dominated districts were ruled illegal, unconstitutional, by the courts. But you think it SHOULD be legal for whoever is in power to disenfranchise their political opponents. The politicians who called for internment of MAGA voters if Harris were elected, should have faced no legal obstacle, as long as you get to disenfranchise about 40% of the voters if your group gets into power. You see no problem there.
The Communist Party had a very deliberate strategy from its beginnings to undermine and sabotage American society from within (perhaps I should generalize this to Western civilization). This was detailed in the "45 Communist Goals" (excerpted from the book "The Naked Communist" by then-FBI agent Cleon Skousen). The 45 Communist goals were published in the U.S. Congressional Record in 1963. These goals have been almost fully achieved by now in the US. In 1963, everyone in the U.S., especially the WWII veterans in Congress, understood the Communist threat. We're at the point we are now because over 60 years ago, our major institutions were stealthily overtaken and sabotaged. There was a concerted and now mostly successful effort to dumb down the public school system and sabotage the country from within. Read goals #17-32 and you'll see how this has been accomplished, with the complicity and compliance of the new media, Hollywood, the courts and the Marxist teachers unions.
These goals were first published on the Internet in 1997, when grassroots publishing via the worldwide web went mainstream. Since then several generations of college students who were indoctrinated there have graduated with education degrees and infected our local communities' schools. Conservatives were working, going to church and raising their families and were oblivious to all of this that was occurring under the radar screen, so to speak. We are now reaping that harvest.
Just as the radical youth of the 60s and 70s have now become mostly conservative boomers, or other wise changed course as they matured, married, had children, got jobs, I believe similar will happen again. Biggest difference between youth at that time and today is the pervasive influence of social media, the bias and easy spread of info found on tik tok and X, and the popularity of podcasts by folk on the left and right who realize the more extreme their rhetoric, the more viewers who engage and the more $$$ they make. There is also the aspect of young folk rebeling against the "establishment," and when that establishment is perceived at some point of the radical youth of today, the younger generation will rebel against it. I tend to be an optimist more than a realist.
Put another way, the outlook is grim.
It is. But it’s an aspect of their own failings as well that they gravitate most towards the things that created this situation and will make it worse.
You can also say that there was some rationality to some of the radicalism of the 60's and 70's. There was genuine racial discrimination to be overcome. In other words, there must be a great awakening. Which I believe there will be.
Amen.
Yes. And people must offer them something real and ancient to combat the void.

"Road kill" - EXACTLY.
The problem now is that so many older people are going along with it too, and our Institutions have been propagating such views.
Anyone who is serious must want a gigantic purge of the institutions.

The idea is nuts.
Bingo.
Only (feeble) push-back is to wonder how much of an urban issue this is.
Certainly far more a problem in urban centres. Part of why they want to destroy farming families-they are one of the last places where you’ve got generational rootedness and some level of independence.

In America, a lot of government power is supposed to rest at the state level or lower. This is why people are voting with their feet, and hopefully not bringing the Blue State political impulses with them when they flee to Red States. If you want to live in a place where your kids can find a non-woke state school, you move to Florida.
Nope,. Just the women under 50.
The Camp of the Saints, youth division.
We are now reaping that harvest.

that second last paragraph is a delightfully painful accurate description
One person's 'extremism' is another person's 'policy floor'.
Don't know.
I think the parents should take responsibility.
If my child acted that way they wouldn't be allowed out of the house.
